The Competent Communicator Award (CC)

In Toastmasters, members learn by studying the manuals, practicing and helping one another.  The greatest learning comes from preparing and presenting speeches based on the projects in the first educational manual.  The Communication and Leadership manual contains 10 speech projects, each designed to develop speaking skills one step at a time.

Most of these projects will be only 5-7 minutes long.  This allows enough time to develop the topic while still keeping club meetings to a reasonable length.  The principles learned in these brief speeches apply to a 40-minute formal address or a 2-minute impromptu speech.  Through the 10 Basic manual projects, members learn to speak with confidence, clarity, persuasiveness and enthusiasm.

An evaluator provides verbal and written feedback on every speech presented.  The evaluator provides a personal opinion of the presentation, pointing out its strengths and offering suggestions for improving the next speech.  Evaluations have one purpose: to help every presenter become a more effective speaker.
