The Advanced Communicator Awards (AC

In Toastmasters, members learn by studying the manuals, practicing and helping one another.  The Advanced Manual series assumes that speakers already know the basics of speech -- organization, voice, gestures, etc. -- but not necessarily that the speakers' skills are fully developed.  In addition, the advanced program begins expanding a speakers skill to include facilitation by asking members to present educational sessions and mentoring new members.

Earning the Advanced Toastmaster awards involves a series of three levels of accomplishment:

  • Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB): The Toastmaster completes an additional 10 speeches, 5 from each of two advanced manuals

  • Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS): The Toastmaster completes an additional 10 speeches from advanced manuals plus conducts two educational sessions using qualifying programs from Toastmasters International.

  • Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG): The Toastmaster completes an additional 10 speeches from advanced manuals plus conducts an educational session using qualifying programs from Toastmasters International AND helps a new member with their first 3 basic manual speeches.

The Advanced Manuals are designed around four principles:
  • The projects increase in difficulty within each manual, becoming more specialized as the speaker progresses.

  • Each project incorporate learnings from previous projects, assuming the techniques learned will be applied whether specifically referred to or not.

  • Each project supplies more information than is needed for the project itself.  The intent is to provide idea-starters for future presentations.

  • The real learning comes from the speech preparation and delivery, not just reading the manual.
