Glenn Barber, member of Thunderbird Toastmasters

In the last five years, Glenn has received two promotions. “My new supervisors told me that my speaking skills have allowed me to be offered the positions- both times,” Glenn said. In both cases, more qualified employees were considered, according to the hiring managers. Based on Glenn’s ability to answer questions during the interview process, hereceived the promotions. Glenn said, “I went from the shipping department to production control expeditor at DSES Honeywell Space. In September of 2007, I was promoted to configuration management analyst. I compare plans with what has been designed to what has been built – and they had better match.”

Mil Pettis, member of Unity Speakers

Mil woke up and discovered that she was not able to speak. She had suffered a stroke! She needed to learn to speak all over again – and her insurance provided only limited coverage for speech therapy. Mil joined Toastmasters, and discovered a community of caring people who supported her. Mil’s speech is still not perfect, but she provides so much enthusiasm that her club loves to hear her speak! Mil Pettis received her Distinguished Toastmasters award in 2007.

Jared Davis, member of Class Act Toastmasters

Staff Sergeant Jared Davis was nominated by his unit as the Squadron Honor Guard Member of the Year. With this accomplishment, a board of Chief Master Sergeants examined his packet consisting of a military
biography, photo, and bullets outlining how he has accomplished mission requirements, enhanced personal development and contributed to the community. Sergeant Davis is the winner of the Arizona Honor Guard Member of the Year for 2007. With this award, he will represent within the state and his packet will be sent to Washington D.C. to compete against the nominees from the rest of the country.

Staff Sergeant Davis writes: “This was an awesome experience for Brittany and I to attend (this OAY event) and the result was more than anticipated. It was a great night with a cocktail hour, recognition to all nominees, dinner and a trophy and other awards for the winners. Two two-star generals were present for the event as well as the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Air National Guard (stationed in D.C.). I just wanted to let you all know about a unique experience in my life.”
